Rainwater

Rain gardens are a great way to help alleviate runoff from massive rain storms like the one earlier this month. However there are many other benefits to rain gardens such as acting as a filter for the pesticide and oil that collect in the rainwater once it hits the earth. Rather than run into the creek and into the river, depositing harmful chemicals, the water is filtered through and cleaned by the plants and earth and put back into the water table. MSD, the Metro Sewer Department, offers free literature online about the construction and value of rain gardens. They also offer information on rain barrels and where they can be purchased.
