I am interested in the concepts behind Hans Haacke's work and the materials that he chose to use, especially between 1968 to 1972.
Is an animal a material?
The animal is not the art, it is the process in which they live and grow that is significant... I think.
I'm interested.
This work has always stayed with me:
ReplyDeleteHans Haacke, Der Bevölkerung, 2000
the Reichstag, Berlin, Germany
Invited by a committee of twelve parliament members to propose a work for Sir Norman Foster’s renovated Reichstag, Haacke proposed a work that would both critique the building’s 1915 inscription and require parliament members to deposit two 25-kilogram bags of soil from their region onto a plot in the northern courtyard. Despite efforts by a coalition of Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union to defeat his proposal, the measure passed by a narrow margin of 260 to 258.
